Deadline: Secondary In-District Transfers for 2026-27 School Year Due Feb. 24

Deadline: Secondary In-District Transfers for 2026-27 School Year Due Feb. 24

Dear current and incoming middle and high school families,

We are writing to share an important update about in-district transfers for students entering grades 6-12 in the 2026-27 school year.

With some of the significant changes to middle school programming (more below), we understand that many families may be thinking carefully about where they would like their children to attend school next year.

Families who would like their student to attend a middle or high school other than their assigned boundary-area school must submit an in-district transfer application no later than the end of the day on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026.

After that date, no in-district transfer requests will be accepted for the first semester of the 2026-27 school year for secondary students.

For more information about enrollment options, please visit rdale.org/enroll. To apply for an in-district transfer, go directly to enrollmentoptions.rdale.org. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact our Enrollment Center at 763-504-8080 or enrollment@rdale.org.

This updated timeline is needed for the district because:

  • It helps stabilize staffing and will reduce changes at the start of the school year
  • Supports more accurate and efficient transportation routing
  • Aligns our district with best practices used in neighboring school districts

A follow-up email will be sent Monday, Feb. 9, 2026, via Infinite Campus Parent Portal to families of students currently in grades 5-11. That message will include specific information for your student, including their assigned boundary school for next year.

Again, families who would like their student to attend a middle or high school other than their assigned boundary-area school must submit an in-district transfer application no later than the end of the day on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026.

A time of transition for our middle schools

This change comes during a broader transition for our middle school community. The School Board has approved adjustments to facilities and programming as part of the Statutory Operating Debt (SOD) plan, including the closure of Robbinsdale Middle School (RMS), the discontinuation of the FAIR Crystal middle school magnet program, and the expansion of our middle school Spanish immersion programming at Plymouth Middle School to include Sandburg Middle School. We know these are significant and, for many students and families, deeply personal changes.

If you would like to review previous communications about these transitions, you can find them here:

We look forward to sharing more details about transition events and information fairs at Plymouth and Sandburg Middle Schools, and Armstrong and Cooper High Schools in the coming months.

Thank you for your partnership as we plan ahead for a strong start to the 2026-27 school year.

Sincerely,

Kristen Hoheisel
