School Board appoints DJ (Richard) Brynteson to fill vacant school board seat

The Robbinsdale Area Schools (Rdale) Board of Education has appointed DJ (Richard) Brynteson to fill the district’s vacant school board seat following interviews with four finalists at a special meeting on Thursday, Nov. 20.

Brynteson was selected from a pool of 17 applicants whose materials were reviewed and scored blindly by board members. The top four applicants—Brynteson, Brian Hanf, Cheryl Holm-Hansen, and Lennie Kaufman—were invited to participate in public interviews Nov. 20 before the Board made its final decision.

Brynteson has coached Robbinsdale Debate for more than 20 years, beginning at Cooper High School before the Cooper and Armstrong programs merged.

He will take office at the first meeting of the new year on Jan. 5, 2026. He will serve the remainder of the term, which runs through December 2026.
